The Venice Project is a comedy drama film which looks into the future of art. Stuart Townsend plays the characters of Lark in 1999 and Gippo the Fool in 1699.

Roland (Dennis Hopper), who lives in Venice, California and dabbles in way-out art while his older sister, Countess Camilla Volta (Lauren Bacall), lives in the family's ancient palazzo in Venice, Italy.

Viscount (John Wood), the father of the siblings, falls into a coma after donating, his lavish home and art treasures to the Italian state.

Flashbacks to 1699 see Gippo (Stuart Townsend) proposes that future art will be abstract and experimental.

Stuart also reppears in 1999 as the fun-loving Lark who is having an affair with Danilla (Mia Maestro) whom is the family maid, only this time he predicts the future of art will be "invisible art".
